Technical Support Engineer Company: FAST, a Microsoft subsidiary Job ID#: ****** # of Positions: 1 Posted: 11/21/2008 Job Type: Full Time Location: Oslo, Norway Department: R&D-182-Technical Support Category: Engineering Salary: Commensurate With Experience Benefits: Full Benefits Contact: Joar Sæther Job Description • Provide first and second line technical support for FAST customers (both direct sale and Partner client environments) • Replicate customer issues and determine the root cause, write test instructions for bugs • Report bugs to R&D, work with R&D to identify problems, and find workarounds • Contribute to knowledge sharing by writing knowledge-base articles for both internal and external parties and provide ad-hoc internal trainings • Work closely with other Technical Support locations, Professional Services, QA, R&D, Project and Account Management to manage/resolve open customer issues • Acquire detailed working knowledge of our supported products and how it interacts with different operating system environments, hardware and network architectures • Direct communication with customers via phone and emails • Ensure Service Level Agreements are met and issues are properly escalated as needed • Manage assigned tickets according to priority and schedule • Participate in On-Call 24x7 support service for premium customers. • Work in a global environment to ensure customer satisfaction Skills/Requirements • Proficiency in Linux, Unix and/or Windows operating systems; preferably more than desktop experience, such as system administration, server configuration and/or performance tuning • Working knowledge of network troubleshooting (i.e. TCP/IP, DNS, server ports, switches/routers, firewalls) • Job experience in software engineering, technical support, or professional services • Exceptional communication and customer service focus • Scripting experience with Unix shell, sed/awk, Python, PERL, or PHP – at least one is required • Good knowledge at least of the following object-oriented programming languages: Java, C# (.NET), C++ and Python.• Ability to do code level investigation for efficient communication with R&D and quicker self-learning of the products.• Experience in troubleshooting at system and application level • Understanding of end-to-end installation and configuration of 3rd party environments • Excellent organization and time management skills with attention to detail • Ability to multi-task in a dynamic fast paced environment, with minimal supervision• Minimum bachelors degree in computer science or information systems• Bilingual candidates with fluent English and a second language like Spanish, French, Italian, Japanese or Korean APPLY HERE
